More Trees BANES Achieves ‘OUTSTANDING’ Recognition & Contribution at RHS Awards

We are thrilled to share some exciting news with our More Trees community.

In our first year participating in the RHS “It’s Your Neighbourhood” (IYN) scheme, More Trees BANES has been assessed and awarded the highest category of Level 5, ‘OUTSTANDING’  by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).*

The assessor praised the  sustainable practices at our Lyncombe Hill Fields Community Tree Nursery. Initiatives like rainwater harvesting and using locally sourced mulch are not just about maintaining but also enhancing the environment. Our belief in regeneration is one of our values that drives our actions every day.

And that’s not all! At the RHS South West In Bloom Awards ceremony held at Truro Cathedral, More Trees was presented with one of the Judges’ Discretionary Awards, the London and Manchester Trophy for most outstanding contribution to the environment.  The RHS presented us with a framed certificate and the London and Manchester trophy found a new home with us for the next year.

Adam Gretton, our Founder Trustee, said: “This recognition is not just an award; it’s a testament to the passion, hard work, and dedication of our team and volunteers. Every tree we plant, every initiative we undertake, brings us a step closer to a greener, more vibrant community.”

Steve Brook, Chairman of Bath in Bloom said: “More Trees BANES isn’t just planting trees; it’s planting hope, nurturing environmental responsibility, and fostering community ties. Their drive and commitment are truly commendable.”

Over the last two years, More Trees BANES has been on a journey from a grassroots community group to a thriving registered charity. During this time, we have accomplished much together including the development of 15 tree nurseries, a successful seed collection programme visiting ancient woodlands, the acquisition of a new van to expand outreach, hiring a second and third member of staff and planting close to 1,500 trees in public spaces.

As we look forward, our vision remains clear: to see dynamic and diverse tree-rich landscapes that regenerate the environment, our communities and the natural world.

This recognition from the RHS is not just an award but a confirmation of our commitment to this.

To everyone in our tree community, thank you! Your support, enthusiasm and commitment is everything.

* The RHS It’s Your Neighbourhood is the sister campaign to Britain in Bloom launched by RHS in 2006 to reward voluntary and community groups that want to ‘clean up and green up’ their areas. It also provides those groups with the chance to get involved in the wider RHS Britain in Bloom initiative and awards.
