Our volunteers are at the heart of what we do and everything we achieve – they are More Trees.
We come together to grow, plant and care for trees – and in so doing we take positive action to help the environment, support our communities and give back to the natural world.
Our staff and volunteers are a friendly and welcoming team. We take pride in what we do and how we do it, and we care about our trees watching them keenly as they grow.
But that’s not all. We enjoy ourselves and have fun. We meet new people, learn new skills and inspire each other. We enjoy the outdoors, connect with nature and share a sense of wellbeing. And we love getting our hands dirty!
Whatever your background or skills, everyone is welcome at More Trees. No experience required as we’ll show you what to do and adapt tasks depending on your circumstances. We are all learning. And you can give as much or as little time as you have. It all makes a difference.
Below you will see we have a variety of regular and ad hoc volunteering opportunities throughout the year evolving around our Central Hub, Community Tree Nurseries and the community.
For more formal volunteering roles, please see current vacancies.
Central Hub
We process seeds collected from local woodland and sow and nurture the seedlings as they grow. Volunteers get involved in all aspects of managing the nursery.
These activities usually take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and occasionally on weekends.
See more information about our Hub.
Community Tree Nurseries
We plant out and grow on our saplings, weed, water, lift and ‘heal in’ trees in preparation for our tree planting projects. Volunteers also have the opportunity to develop the nurseries such as installing rain water harvesting.
These activities usually take place on the weekends and in the evening during the summer months.
See more information on our Community Tree Nurseries.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
We have welcomed lots of Duke of Edinburgh participants over the last few years helping us at our Dry Arch Community Nursery as well as undertaking activities at our Hub. If you are taking your DofE, we have plenty of activities taking place over our tree growing year which you can volunteer for.
Micro Volunteering
We occasionally offer opportunities which can be performed at home in your own time. You could become a social media champion or write an article for our news blog. Check our current vacancies and sign up to our newsletter to receive news about current micro volunteering vacancies.
Tree Planting and Aftercare
We plant trees locally during the winter months and provide essential tree aftercare to increase survival rates.
You’ll find more information on our planting projects and tree aftercare here.
Seed Collecting
From September, we visit a range of local woodland locations around Bath and the South West. We collect seeds that are then processed during our weekly session at our Hub.
We offer lifts from our Hub for our weekly seed collecting trips.
Summer activities
From around mid-June through to the end of August, we take our weekly volunteer sessions ‘on the road’. Our mobile volunteering sessions include providing tree aftercare, supporting our community tree nurseries and seed collecting.
We offer lifts in our van from the Hub for these sessions.
